Personality & Traits

General Overview Philip''s mood depends heavily on the current setting of his Neural Stabiliser, which can range from utterly sober and clear-headed when the stabiliser is set to maximum, to a mental wreck when de-activated. Unfortunately the side-effects of the stabiliser mean that he is rarely able to turn it to full, meaning that he is constantly suffering what most people would consider to be a heavy hangover.

Because of the constant pain, Phil tends to be short-tempered,irritable,and impatient, but he tries hard to bury this and be as friendly and as professional as possible.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths:-
-Empathy with people suffering personal demons

-Highly addictive personality
-At the mercy of his self-designed Neural Stabiliser
Ambitions To do as much good as possible before his self-inflicted damage kills him.
Hobbies & Interests Reading and listening to music. Too many experiences with chemicals which affected his ability to distinguish reality have put him off fiction.

Personal History Philip was born in Florida to Amy Vine and Raoul Hunter,a pair who met in Starfleet Medical. His was a happy childhood, excelling particularly in chemistry and biology at school, until his mother died during an accident on Starbase 1. This incident shook his father to the bone. He no longer felt comfortable in space and increasingly used his medical privileges to acquire drugs to self-medicate.

Philip tried his best to help his father, even putting off entering the academy to look after him. They tried counselling, will-power,replacement treatments, but nothing worked. Philip was shocked by how little effective treatment for addiction their was in the Federation - a consequence of addiction being almost eliminated in the 23rd and 24th centuries.

Philip entered the Academy with the intention of discovering new treatments. He worked tirelessly until he gained access to a lab of his own. From there he intended to conduct experiments in drug treatments, but discovered he couldn't get ethical approval, so he began to experiment on himself, deliberately exposing himself to dangerous and illegal chemicals in the hope of treating them.

Unfortunately, without his son by his side, Raoul took his own life through an overdose. Philip was serving on the USS Thompson when he learned. Suddenly his life fell out from under him, all his efforts were in vain. He stopped bothering with his treatment experiments but maintained the heavy drugs use. Eventually it impacted on his performance to a degree where he was unable to hide his addiction from his CO.

Philip was demoted, sent to the same facilities which had failed to help his father, and generally slid deeper into his drug-fuelled depression. It took until he almost killed himself before Philip realised the extent of his troubles. He realised that he was simply following the path of his father and resumed his research into curing addiction. This research eventually led to the discovery of a modified Neurological Stabiliser which could regulate his brain chemistry and allow him to resume a somewhat normal life.

Pulling himself out of the pit of his own depression made him want to help others, so he re-applied for the academy, passed, and built a medical career on several postings until he was appointed deputy CMO on the USS Resolute.
